Smoke And Mirrors Routine
These visions have enchanted writers and poets for centuries. I will
quote this portion of a poem named Fata Morgana by Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow:
Fata Morgana
And forever before me gleams
The shining city of song
In the beautiful land of dreams.
But when I would enter the gate
Of that golden atmosphere,
It is gone, and I wonder and wait
For the vision to reappear.
The point of bringing this curiosity to you is that you will benefit
greatly by “getting outside your own head” on occasion and looking
into new interests, curiosities, anything that will occupy your mind
awhile and take it off your current problems.
Christian comic, Mark Lowery once illustrated a point in his funny
story by mentioning a favorite Biblical phrase, “it came to pass”.
We can apply this phrase to your depression, loneliness, anger or
anxiety by reminding ourselves, “it came to pass” and pass it must
when you are determined you will make them part of your past, not your
present or future.
So before we get into the application of mirages to your depression
and loneliness, let me encourage you again to find something that
interests you, fills you with wonder, passion or astonishment. Research
it, turning it over in your mind and marveling at the unending mysteries
of life. This will help eliminate your mind as “the devil’s
playground” because your mind will be filled with uplifting, exciting
ideas.
Needless to say, the Christian experience is full of wonder and awe!
When God answers your prayers, sometimes He seems to move Heaven and
Earth to cause a chain of events which result in a marvelous answer to
your prayer. Praying for a wayward son or daughter might involve the
unwitting help of several people, some of whom you don’t even know,
and changing of your child’s plans to a course he wouldn’t have
chosen, all to bring about a wondrous change of heart.
