CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 12. Steps To Take Now
As an example, consider what medical literature is now saying about
the power of laughter. But God thought of it first! In Proverbs, 17:22
God reveals that “A merry heart doeth good, like a medicine.” Even a
smile causes changes in our chemistry and in our attitude, to help us
overcome or endure depressing thoughts and illness. Our Loving Father
created us to enjoy life, love and laughter, as well as intimacy with
Him available through His free gift of salvation; our sins forgiven by
the powerful blood of the Lamb. Jesus did say , in this life you will
have trouble, but we should be of good cheer, for He has overcome the
world. These living words shouldn’t be read quickly, but with care and
contemplation because each word holds the key to your health and
happiness. Notice this, another living word about a sound mind. In
Timothy 1:7, He tells us, “God has not given us the spirit of fear,
but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.” Break up the verse into
sections to see the raw power it holds; “God has not given us the
spirit of fear (Note: fear is a spirit). All negative emotions come from
a spirit, either the enemy of our souls, or our own negative thought
patterns which run counter to God’s will for us. Fear is therefore a
sin, because it is the opposite of faith in God, along with the
detrimental sins of hatred, envy, selfishness, self-pity, which cause so
many of our mental health problems, and eventually harm our bodies.
(Fear, of course, in response to sudden danger is part of our internal
early warning system, meant to pump adrenalin and put us in fight or
flight mode.) But a persistent state of fear or anxiety is never given
to us by God; it is a useful tool of the enemy, designed to thwart our
faith in God, thereby leaving us defenseless.
Fear is the opposite of faith. The verse goes on to tell us what God does
give us, power, love and a sound mind! (A strong, healthy mind).
Therefore, we need to take another look at the way we view loneliness
and depression. What attitude do we have toward it? Passive? Resigned?
Accepting? NO, because God has given us the power to bring about a sound
mind, and love to comfort us while we actively work toward overcoming
loneliness and it’s fellow travelers, depression, anger, self pity,
hopelessness, fear of new relationships, etc.
As you read these methods, believe that God has empowered you to
resist the fear, sadness, anger or self pity that brought on your
troubles Instead, apply that POWER as you select a treatment, and
believe that you will prevail . The enemy wants you side-tracked,
sidelined, and incapacitated so you cannot be victorious. See through
his maze of deception- he’s a liar! Your birthright in Christ is a
sound mind.
Loneliness is not an indication that there’s something wrong with
you, that you’re weak or unstable, or that you are not lovable. Don’t
let the enemy put you on a guilt trip or make you feel worthless. He’s
a liar! Choose one or more of these suggestions, and make it a priority
to set goals and a schedule.
