Chapter 28. Famous People Who Suffered
Loneliness And Depression
A Depressing and Tormenting Illness Is Overcome By Faith
In The Great Physician
21, 22. Touch but his garment. The Jews paid to the fringe a
superstitious reverence. Sharing the superstition, this woman touched it in
hope of cure. Thy faith hath made thee whole. Literally, thy faith
hath saved thee. Her faith, of course, had not been the cause of her
cure. Christ's power had been that. But her faith was the condition on her
part. Hence it might be represented as having "made her whole."
The student should observe that hers was not a passive faith, but it led to
action. A passive faith is a dead faith
All we can add to that is Amen, Brother Johnson! This suffering soul not
only was set free from her illness, but also of depression, hopelessness and
embarrassment. Maybe she felt shame, as well, thinking her sins had brought
on this incurable disease. Whatever the case, she surely went away,
rejoicing! Nothing is recorded about her life after her encounter with The
Great Physician, but surely she became an ardent worshipper in the church,
and shared her testimony with everyone, so they could rejoice with her. Whom
the Son sets free, is free indeed, Christian singles! Did you ever notice
that the Bible doesn’t avoid mentioning such personal problems as this
issue of blood? It’s a problem, like so many personal maladies, that you
might be surprised to find in a holy book, but the Lord wants us to know
that our bodies and their functions are not things we should get embarrassed
about; that natural functions should be looked upon, as a doctor does,
without embarrassment. When we have our new bodies, our immortal, glorious
bodies, we won’t have these things that cause discomfort, mentally and
physically. These “earth suits” were designed for all we experience in
life, including the ability to bring new life into the world. But our new,
“immortal suits” (or maybe we could call them Celestial Suits!!) will be
designed to carry our souls and spirits throughout eternity, and it will
never get old or feel pain.
