Esau Made Many Bad Choices Which Depressed And Humiliated
Him
Unfortunate decisions and impetuous moves caused Esau, the
twin brother of Jacob, to give up his birthright for one meal. He also
married two Hittite women, which caused his parents, Isaac and Rebekah great
grief. Esau, however, could not help that his parents chose favorites
between the two boys; for Isaac loved Esau more because he loved to eat Esau’s
venison, but Rebekah loved Jacob more. This is how the Scriptures describe
the birth of these two boys, who would produce two nations, one being more
more powerful than the other:
Genesis 26: And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son:
Abraham begat Isaac, and Isaac was forty years old when he took to wife…And
Isaac entreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord
was entreated of him and Rebekah his wife conceived. And the children
struggled together within her; and she said, if this be so, why am I thus?
And she went to enquire of the Lord.
And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manners
of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be
stronger than the other people, and the elder shall serve the younger. And
when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in
her womb.
