“No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; I have drunk neither
wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. Count
not thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial; for out of the abundance of my
complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and the Lord of Israel grant
thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. And she said, Let thine
handmaid find grace in thy sight. And the woman went her way and did eat,
and her countenance was no more sad.
Isn’t this amazing, Christian singles! She began walking by faith as
soon as Eli the prophet spoke a blessing on her. And her depression left and
she had an appetite again. But let’s hope we can trust in the Lord much
sooner in our despair! After all, our high priest is always
available. Jesus is just a prayer away. It is true, he may send your answer
to prayer right away, or he may postpone it, while he works everything
together for your good. We can’t demand an immediate answer, but we should
rest in the knowledge that when the time is right, the Lord of Glory will
take care of our needs. Sometimes we get in the way of receiving our
blessing, because we do not change negative or harmful attitudes or
thoughts. This is like putting up a wall between us and God. If we harbor
hatred or other feelings instead of repenting and releasing them to the
Lord, it will surely hamper our receiving. But, like the faithful Hannah,
let us see our promise with eyes of faith, and not depend upon our natural
sight. After all, our answer to prayer is in the unseen world, before it
manifests here in the “real world!”
But Hannah’s blessing didn’t stop with the birth of Samuel. God
blessed her with three more sons, and two daughters, and the child, Samuel
grew to become a great prophet of the Lord.
