Loneliness And Depression
The Children Of Israel Became Depressed and Full Of Self-pity In The
Exodus
We could surmise, Christian singles, that the children of Israel who
wandered in the desert after being set free from captivity, became depressed
and full of self-pity as they wandered on and on, because they lost their
faith. They even fashioned a golden calf to worship, hoping that their luck
would change. It amazes us that they would lose their faith in God when he
had saved their lives by parting the Red Sea, performed many miracles, and
provided food and water for them, but such is human nature! Then the
depressed and dejected travelers began murmuring (complaining.) Isn’t that
what we are inclined to do when we sink into depression and self-pity? If no
one will listen to us anymore (because they are tired of hearing the same
old list of woes), then we will complain to ourselves! This just drives the
depression and loneliness deeper, and, by complaining and focusing only on
our problems, we give the enemy of our souls the right to use this against
us, because we have given him the legal right to enter in to our minds,
instead of calling out to God. Our minds should be closely guarded, because
evil spirits and even evil people know if we relinquish our minds to them,
they can gain complete control over us. This is what happens in mind control
cults, Christian singles! And this domination can happen on a much smaller
scale, too, if a person wants to control you. He or she will use persuasion
and other tricks to make you give up your mind and will to them. That‘s
why it is so important to keep our minds stayed on the Lord. As Isaiah 26:3
promises us, Thou wilt keep him in PERFECT PEACE, whose mind is stayed on
thee; because he trusts in thee. We see here another promise we can cling
to, memorize, and let it remind us that if our minds are always tuned in to
God, the enemy won’t be able to get a word in edgewise! You could
personalize it and say to the Lord, “You, Lord, keep me in perfect peace
because my mind is stayed on you, and I trust you.”
