Chapter 26. Solution #1: Speak Life And Blessing
Upon Yourself And Family
Now, Christian singles, I want to be sure no one misunderstands; I
am not talking about using a verse or word from the Bible as a chant
or mantra!! No, God does not want you in an altered state of mind.
Remember, He has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love
and a SOUND MIND! If He had desired humans to be robotic, non-thinking
zombies, He could have created us without a will of our own. But He
desired to have companionship with willing, eager companions, who
always have the option to turn from Him, if they so choose. And isn’t
that what Christian singles want in a mate? Not someone who was
tricked into marriage, or someone who stays with you, out of
obligation, not love? Perish the thought! So when I say repeat these
verses several times a day, I don’t mean spending hours, repeating
or chanting one word or phrase, but just remember to say those words
throughout your day, off and on, whenever you can, believing each time
that you are retraining your mind, and renewing it to conform to the
mind of Christ, which is full of power and wisdom. Renewing your mind
is paramount to overcoming depression and other problems.
There are physical remedies which you can use to break the habit of
negative thinking. Have you seen public information spots on TV where
they demonstrate snapping a rubber band on your wrist when you get the
urge to smoke? You don’t have to snap it hard, but just enough to
send an unpleasant signal to your brain, while you are in the throes
of a nicotine fit. This causes the brain to associate the urge to
smoke with pain. Soon your brain will set in motion a plan to avoid
that pain. I’ve heard it works, if you stick with it. Likewise, if
you can associate pain or some other unpleasant sensation with
negative thoughts or verbal negative confessions it might speed up
your freedom from the bondage of negative confession. You could even
play a recording of music you can’t stand! Imagine suffering through
2 minutes of music that sets your teeth on edge. Here’s a hint from
Grandma; ask a teenager if you could borrow a CD of the most
irritating music they have for a few days No, you’d better name the
artist, or they will never be able to identify any irritating music in
their collection. Your opinion may differ sharply from theirs. The
pain association remedy may help a lot to rid yourself of thinking or
speaking the negative confession, though.
