Chapter 26. Solution #1: Speak Life And Blessing
Upon Yourself And Family
Negative Confession, The Devil’s Playground,
Drives Depression and Loneliness Deeper
Speaking of the devil, let’s look at negative confession, the
enemy’s potent weapon against you, and it’s debilitating,
self-defeating power. Have you ever told yourself, or someone else,
“I wish I were dead!” “I can’t forgive my parents, spouse,
children, neighbors, pastor,” etc., “there’s no hope, I can’t
change myself,” God isn’t answering my prayer,” “nobody cares
how much I hurt,” “I can’t rise above my problems,” “I will
never get out of debt,” “nobody loves me,” or “my life will
never get better?” “I can’t.”,
“I am worthless, ugly, dumb, too old, uneducated, too sick,
unpopular, unlucky, etc.” “I will never beat this depression,”
“Loneliness is my lot in life.”
If so, you have fallen into the pit of negative confession. Now
some of you sweet Christian singles may reject the whole idea of
positive vs. negative confession, having a bad taste in your mouth
from the whole “name it and claim it” movement, which, it must be
acknowledged, was guilty of excesses, false teaching that actually
blamed the victim when the method didn’t work for them, and
flamboyant preachers who got rich from promises that their
congregation would become prosperous if they donated enough money.
Sadly, the church has made numerous errors, and misused the Bible’s
promises but should we throw out the baby with the bath water? The
promises are there, in the Bible, you know. So how can we reach out
and receive what God has for us, without falling into wrong attitudes
and motives? I think the place to start is in prayer, asking the Lord’s
direction and His help in avoiding pitfalls such as asking
presumptuously, unworthily, due to some sin or selfishness in our
lives. And, again, it can’t be stressed enough that God prizes a
humble, contrite heart! But, Christian singles, if you come to Him
like a child, trusting, and transparent, and ask how you may pray for
a miracle, I believe you will get an answer, and you will feel peace.
He said that we could come to Him, ask anything, and it will be given,
according to His will. We also need to consider if there is any sin in
our lives which would keep us from receiving; if we have not forgiven
others (or even ourselves!) or if we have grown distant from Him,
wrapped up in our financial woes, depression, loneliness, and
hopelessness, and have not spent time with the Lord in prayer, and
time in the Word, reading it’s precious pages. When you have
considered all these things, and changed whatever may be standing in
the way of receiving a blessing, asking for forgiveness for every
known and unknown sin, rededicating your life and mind to Him, You
could study these promises and pray for those that apply to your
situation. Along with prayer, you can begin to declare that you are
victorious over your circumstances, and you are victorious over any
interference the enemy plans for your life. You can choose several
Bible verses that apply to your needs, write them on cards or make a
list, and memorize them. Then you can repeat them several times a day
with confidence that they are hitting home in your conscious and
subconscious mind. While you speak them, you can let the enemy know
that you only listen to God, that you are impervious to evil attacks
and will not fall for deception again. If you are at work and cannot
repeat the memorized verses, you can say them silently, each time
driving these Power Words deeper into your being, so that they take
root and grow! Depression must flee, as you speak powerful words,
straight from the Scriptures.
