“Positive Thinking” Books Are Best Sellers, But
God Thought Of It First!
Years ago, motivational speakers and self-help teachers, whether
Christian or not, promoted positive thinking and positive confession,
along with tips such as making a potential customer feel he was
special, by remembering dates or words that had a profound impact on
him. Some Christian writers still use the positive thinking model
because it has a timeless effect on people, if they are serious about
achieving success in all aspects of their lives, and finding happiness
and love. The same is true in your own personal ministry to those
around you, Christian singles. If you project a positive demeanor,
full of expectation for healing or deliverance for yourself or others,
their spirits will rise, as they see a glimmer of hope. It begins in
your heart, and moves to your mind, washing your thinking with
life-giving hope, and then proceeds out of your mouth, words of eager
anticipation of good things to come. Soon you and the people you are
ministering to are filled with joy and optimism. It is contagious!
Optimism or pessimism, which will you choose? It is a choice, you
know. It has been said that we make conscious choices to be happy (in
spite of the difficulties confronting us.) Choosing to be optimistic
will set the stage for that happiness to flower. Here is a short poem,
author unknown, which illustrates what optimism can do for you:
The Optimist
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you’d love to win, but you think you can’t
It’s almost a cinch, you can’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a person’s will-
It’s all in your state of mind.
If you think you’re outclassed, you are;
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to believe in yourself before
You can ever take hold of the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the one who wins
Is the one who THINKS he can!
