Chapter 26. Solution #1: Speak Life And Blessing
Upon Yourself And Family
“Positive Thinking” Books Are Best Sellers, But
God Thought Of It First!
I was surprised to learn that many former New Agers quit when a
family member or friend pointed out the many Bible verses which warn
us not to dabble in the occult, in any form. It was surprising because
somewhere along the way it became popular for New Age teachers to
encourage an attitude of superiority in their followers. They taught
that the wisdom of the New Age has replaced the Bible, and that
Christians and believing Jews are inferior, the dying remnants of a
bigoted religion, ignorant and unteachable. Since superiority is very
alluring, I thought that New Agers were not open to another view. But
I was wrong, Christian singles! These people showed me verses in the
Bible that broke the spell over them, and they wanted to have a
relationship with God, instead. Several mentioned Revelation 21:8,
which is a listing of those who will experience the second death, in
the lake of fire: including murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers,
idolaters and liars.
Another verse that gave them pause was Deut. 18:10, warning against
heathen practices: “There shall not be found among you anyone that
makes his son or daughter pass through fire, (child sacrifices) or use
divination, or an observer of times, an enchanter or a witch. Or a
charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a
necromancer (one who asks of the dead). For all that do these things
are an abomination unto the Lord ‘(They are the object of horror and
disgust to the Lord.) Another verse that got to them was Acts 16:16,
where Paul and Silas met a slave girl who made her master rich by
divination through the evil spirit who possessed her body. When Paul
commanded the demon to come out of her, in the name of Jesus, he did.
This left the slave girl with no value to her master anymore, for she
could not predict the future for anyone. The angry master had Paul and
Silas beaten and imprisoned for ruining his business.
