CHRISTIAN SINGLE’S GUIDE TO PERSONALITY DISORDERS
WHICH CAUSE DEPRESSION FOR BOTH THE PERPETRATOR AND THEIR VICTIMS
Chapter 24. Narcissism: “I Love Me, I Love Me Not”
The First Signs Of A Malignant Narcissist
16. Examine THE MASK THEY WEAR! This will reveal the image they
want to project to the world, but here we can see another definition
for the word Mirage, which we discussed earlier. That sparkling pool
of water you see from afar is really dry, cracked desert floor, just
as their image is really a wonderful mirage, full of promise,
but empty of substance and love. Do you know why this character
disorder was given the name “Narcissist”? Its roots are in Greek
mythology: Narcissus, a cold hearted young man, caused the death of a
young woman by spurning her love. He was punished for this with a
spell, that caused him to spend the rest of his life beside a pool of
water, gazing, pining away, deeply in love with his own image
reflected in the water! A better description could not be found. But
the narcissist is torn between loving the perfect image they wear like
a mask, and hating the real person underneath and this war inside
their minds demands so much attention that it is no wonder they have
no real interest in others, or in what it is going on around them,
unless it affects them directly. The myth covers his after-life which
says he turned into the beautiful Narcissus, a family of flowers grown
from a bulb, which include the daffodil and jonquil. If these glorious
flowers could talk they would not appreciate this connection with
self-absorbed, mean-spirited people.
17. There are many other symptoms of the narcissist, but the one
most familiar is one who has fallen in love with the image they
project. If they are physically attractive, they will have outlandish
pride in their looks, even while others see their flaws. This may have
been the reason for the remark that Paris Hilton is a narcissist. I
have heard of no other symptoms in her life to lead to this diagnosis,
such as bitter rants, cruel outbursts, so I assume the writer was
simply using the word generically. Think of the person that exhibits
an ego so huge that it could only be viewed from above the earth! That’s
a narcissist, regardless of their looks or accomplishments. But all
the while, depression, envy, or shame chip away at their façade,
making them the most miserable of people, for it is a full-time job to
stuff these demons down so deep that they can ignore them for awhile.
So, dear Christian singles, if you find that others feel
uncomfortable around your new beau or sweetheart, if they can sense a
harsh tone in his voice or a strange distance he or she has erected to
keep them away from you, pay attention and look for other clues.
Narcissists mistake your love for weakness. Christians have the
gentleness of their Savior and may project trust and other strengths
which narcissists see as weakness, making you a prime target.
