CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 23 Self Sabotage; When You Shoot Yourself In
The Foot!
Self Sabotage and Self-deception
Why do you always underestimate yourself? How is it that a talented
person like you always seems to “blow it” right when something you
want is within your grasp? Why can’t you see that you don’t have to
stay at that low wage job, when you have worked there so long, you could
easily take a management position? Why do you allow others to drain your
finances and time by bailing them out every time they make another
mistake? Don’t you know that those you try to help need some “tough
love” and not yet another bail-out from you? Why do you pass up
wonderful prospective Christian singles and go for another disastrous relationship?
Why are you so self-destructive? Why are you often your own worst enemy?
Look at the way you take your frustrations out on your kids. Don’t you
realize that you are alienating them, possibly for life? Why can’t you
see that what you are doing now has an effect upon the rest of your
life? Why do you substitute binge eating for the things you really want
in life? Why do you use drugs or prescription drugs to dull the pain?
Can’t you see that they will bring more trouble into your life?
Dear reader, if you can see yourself in any of these examples, stop
now, and think about the voice inside you that reminds you that you
cannot rise above any of these problems! Does that voice say, “ I’m
too afraid to make a change” or “I’m not attractive, smart,
educated, or well-liked to break free from my self-imposed prison cell.”
Does that voice say “I can’t do it”, “nobody likes me” or “I
can’t change.” You already know that that voice is not from your
Maker, the one who knows you better than you know yourself!!! In fact,
your Maker isn’t worried whether or not you have all the
qualifications to be successful in love, work, friendships, and life,
because He DOES have what ever you may lack, and He can change you and
make you successful in anything you set out to accomplish. You have only
to ask for it! And God will not put you out there alone on the stage of
life, acting out the promises you are putting your faith in. No, He will
be right beside you, ready to catch you if you fall. God knows it takes
some practice to learn to live by faith, not by sight.
