CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 22. Three Dangerous Words And What They Have
To Do With The Runaway Bride!
The Toxic Shame Sufferer
Families can spend time talking together about ways each of them can
build-up one another, to make each person immune to the ravages of
shame, low self-esteem, fear, envy, and all the destructive false
perceptions humans fall prey to, thereby never giving these malignant
thoughts a foothold. Christian singles, the more you share with others
what you’ve learned about the “fruits” of shame, self-rejection,
and other destructive thoughts, the better the world will be. People can
be set free from this trap and become all that God wants them to be.
Whom the Son sets free is free indeed! You also can build strong ties
and commitment with family and friends, spending time together, talking
about making yourselves strong and resistant to any tendencies to harm
yourselves, psychologically and emotionally. Always show your affection
to one another, as the Bible advises, and show appreciation every time
someone does something for you. Let each member know they are a valued,
respected and loved part of the family, and they are needed, an
irreplaceable member. Be liberal with praise and compliments, always
noticing when someone goes out of their way to please you. As you know,
a home-cooked meal or special treat takes time and effort, and if no one
seems to notice, the giver feels let down, or thinks no one liked it.
A warm smile will lift the spirits of anyone, no matter what they are
going through, and a big hug has the power to heal. Sometimes all a
hurting person needs is a healing touch to give them hope and let them
know you are standing with them, and they are not alone. Kind, sincere
words can do wonders, and you’d be surprised what a tender prayer will
do for someone, even if they are not believers! It seems that almost
anyone welcomes a prayer, and you can lift the sadness or worry by using
prayer. If the person is not uncomfortable if you put you arm around
them or hold their hand, you can combine the power of prayer with the
healing power of touch to give them a double dose!
In the next chapter we will study the strange habit of self sabotage
because we all may unknowingly do this at times. This is another device
that goes hand in hand with depression, loneliness, fear, shame,
self-rejection and the fruits are negative, and self-limiting, keeping
us from becoming all we can be.
