Symptoms Of Toxic Shame
In the teen years, some symptoms of toxic shame may surface, often in
the form of addictions to drugs or alcohol, or even to risk-taking
sports or adventurous escapades.Many kids are addicted to sugar-filled
junk foods and soda pop, but that is another addiction the toxic shame
victim finds to give him comfort. Over time, substances will take over,
and no longer be an escape from self-destructive beliefs about himself.
Gambling, video games and music (loud) may help him blot out his painful
memories and the layers upon layers of new evidence he gathers to build
a case against himself will make his burden unbearable. Fortunately,
counselors have several therapies to help the sufferer overcome shame,
including a 12 step program modeled on alcohol anonymous. (AA). You don’t
need to be handicapped with toxic shame anymore! Please note; There are
many secular psychologists who teach that shame is rooted in Biblical
beliefs, and they attack it by saying the Bible is not true or reliable,
thus your shame is unhealthy and unmerited. But our consciences aren’t
eased by believing that the Bible foisted, old, unscientific dogma on
us. Our consciences are eased when we ask for forgiveness, and when we
try to right the wrongs we have done to others. And, as you Christian
singles know, there is nothing like the release from the weight of sin
once you have repented and given it to the Lord! It goes into the sea of
forgetfulness, never to wash up on the shore again. Christ’s blood was
shed to pay the price or penalty for the wrong things we do, so it is
PAID IN FULL!! Our only responsibility is to leave it behind.
