Chapter 19. God, The Ultimate Healer
Before we answer the question, “Is depression an addiction; and
can we become addicted to Joy” let’s look at the tragedy of
self-hatred and self-rejection. The devil is a world-class con
artist-we must give credit where credit is due; grudgingly, in his
case. How he could convince untold millions, if not billions, of
hurting souls throughout the world that they are unlovable and
unworthy to enjoy all that life on Earth and eternal life has to
offer, has to be the biggest scam ever !!! To believe that we are
unlovable or worth nothing we have had to ignore the wondrous working
of our minds, spirits, and bodies that set us apart from every living
thing on Earth. All living things are wonderful too, but they do not
have minds like ours, to express the mystery of life, to contemplate
deep emotions such as love, mercy and forgiveness, to reach out to
Heaven for eternal life, or design marvelous space explorations and so
many other quests for knowledge. God told us that we were created in
His image, below His glorious angels in knowledge, but far above the
rest of creation. Even His beautiful angels wonder about the mystery
of our salvation, which includes becoming co-heirs with Christ. Isn’t
that an awesome thing to contemplate, Christian singles?
If we were made in God’s image, how could ANY of us ever be
worthless or unlovable? As I mentioned before, God said that one soul
is worth more to Him than everything He created! AND THAT INCLUDES
YOU!!! Your soul is priceless; nothing can compare with your value in
the cosmic scheme of things. As you know, there was a war in the
spirit realm, before we were ever created. Lucifer and one third of
the angels rebelled against God, and foolishly decided to take Him on
in a race to destroy the human family God created for fellowship, love
and partnership. It has always been mystifying to us why God didn’t
destroy these evil spirits when they first became power-hungry, full
of grandiose illusions, and full of hatred for the children God
designed for Himself. But, I suspect, God kept them around as “useful
idiots” to prove His point that His children would choose kindness
over cruelty, love over hatred, goodness over evil, and God over sin
and destruction. They continue to tempt us in all ways, fulfilling
their role as useless idiots who are doomed to eternal punishment
while we have a choice in our destiny! They are useful in putting
temptation in our way to snare us. It is part of our testing to prove
we can overcome temptation to do wrong. Christian singles, if this is
our boot camp, we can pass with flying colors if we study God’s
Manual to learn all the powerful tools He has given us to overcome
evil. The greatest is, of course, the gift of forgiveness we can
appropriate through accepting Jesus’ payment for our sin on the
cross. This advantage that we have over the dark angels is so great,
it almost seems we have been made too strong for them to have a fair
fight with us. But who’s complaining? Who cares if the enemy doesn’t
compete on a level playing field? They are losers, from the beginning,
when they let their egos overtake their common sense. And they had a
great advantage; they’ve seen God, and we haven’t, yet they
deluded themselves into thinking they could overcome the very One who
created them!
