CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 19. God, The Ultimate Healer
Many pastors advise new- comers to read The Gospel of John first,
followed by Acts. John refers to Christ as The Word, which might
confuse a person new to the faith, so when you read the opening lines,
just think “Jesus” when John writes, In the beginning was The Word
(Jesus) and The Word (Jesus) was with God, and The Word (Jesus) was
God. This sentence introduces you to the Trinity, which also includes
the Holy Spirit. Christians do not believe in three separate Gods, but
in one God. Just as we are made up of three parts, body, soul, and
spirit, (The soul including mind, emotions, etc.), God is three in one,
a mystery we may never fully comprehend until we arrive in Heaven. I
like to think of the Trinity as three ways we can relate to Him, three
ways we can experience God. There is the Father to whom we direct our
prayers, the Son, who became flesh like us so He could take our sin
upon Himself and pay the penalty for us,and the Holy Spirit who can
come into our bodies and live inside us. God, the father, said no man
could live if he came into God’s presence in the man’s human form.
But the Holy Spirit can in-dwell us, with no harm to our bodies. When
you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it will revolutionize your life.
Expect some wondrous feelings because the precious Spirit likes to
communicate with us, sometimes soothing us, sometimes using our
conscience to reveal habits of thinking that do not fit the renewed
mind. At those moments we will feel guilt for grieving the Holy
Spirit. We only have to say we’re sorry, and ask for forgiveness and
then we will feel peace. Sometimes, you can feel the Spirit “well up
in you” and it will sort of take your breathe away, for an instant.
This is not frightening, but it fills you with wonder. It usually
happens when you have done something that pleases God, such as leading
someone to Christ Other times you will hear within you that “still,
small voice” giving you comfort or direction or giving you just the
right words to reach and touch someone else. This can happen when you’re
speaking to someone or when you’re writing to them. When you are
in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit, you are never alone again! But with the
Father, when we are in Heaven, we will have immortal bodies, which can
withstand the power and glory of God, the Father, but these mortal
bodies could not.
