CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 18: Uncover The Hidden Roots of Your Problem
But this experience made me think about those anxious thoughts I
have from time to time, worrying about grandchildren who live far away
(and therefore are out of my control, my ability to protect them from
harm) and other little worries, like getting older and thinking about
when I am no longer able to take care of myself and other fears. I
realized that I had the spirit of fear and anxiety and probably had
had it for years, but wouldn’t own up to it. My son and I cast out
these negative thoughts which were actually unnoticed sins, whether
they came from my own mind or from the enemy and now I do regular
maintenance to keep these harmful emotions away. I’d completely
ignored the many Bible commands to “fear not” and to be “anxious
for nothing,” in other words, don’t have anxiety over anything.
Fear and anxiety are the opposite of faith and do not belong in a
Christian’s mind, at least not long term. God’s prescription for
us is this: Cast your cares (fears, worry) upon Me, for I care for
you. If you fear something, do all you can do about it and then give
it to God to resolve or heal. If it is a life or death situation, and
doctors have done all they can do, it is in God’s loving hands, and
whether we live or die, we will be taken care of, so worry does us no
good. Someone once said, if we could see the glory and joy of heaven
we would not want to remain here. Heaven awaits us, with the promise
of “endless delight“ and if God wants to bring us home we must
trust in Him for our final journey.
Momentary fear, as I mentioned before, is normal, but when it is an
on-going problem, possibly hidden from your own consciousness, it is a
sin, although not in the way that rebelling against God is. Fear leads
to your destruction or death, and is too heavy a burden for you to
carry, hindering your relationships here on Earth and your
relationship with God.
You remember Job, who, by all accounts, lead an upright life in
close communion with God. But Job did have one sin; fear. Notice, in
Job 3:25, he said “For the thing which I greatly FEARED has come
upon me, and that which I was AFRAID of has come unto me.” Of course
Job’s problems were the work of the devil when the Lord allowed him
to be tested, but the principle is the same. If we let the spirit of
fear or any other destructive emotion rule our lives, it proves we are
listening to satan, not to God, in the same way that Adam and Eve
listened to the wrong voice, not God. So we must choose faith, and
speak faith in God and He will answer our prayers.
