CHRISTIAN SINGLES, BE FAITHFUL
WITH SMALL THINGS, FIRST
Ruth’s devotion to her mother-in-law and
the hard, back-breaking work she was willing to do to provide for
Naomi and herself teaches us not to complain or “murmur” when we
have little. In fact, the lord promises if we are faithful with the
small blessings and provision we have, He will then trust us with more
abundance. We don’t need to view our financial circumstances as
permanent; not when we serve The One who owns the cattle on a thousand
hills, and, indeed, The One who holds us in the palm of His hand!
But for right now, if you will show
stewardship over what you now earn, and use some of the timeless
lessons passed down to us from former generations, you can gain
control of your income, increase it, and also save more of it for the
things that really matter. A savings account and investing in your
future will provide you with many happy and carefree tomorrows. We can
recall what past generations have taught us; in fact, they taught us
so well, we have condensed these lessons into pithy sayings, such as
“Waste not, want not.” It is true that we throw away so much that
would be used and recycled in a more frugal society.
But is it really true that if we do not waste
anything, we will not be in want ( lacking necessities)? Let’s look
into that question, and see where waste can be squeezed out without
damage to your quality of life. At the same time, you can examine how
much money you earn, and then decide whether you need to work a part
time job for awhile to pay off bills, or gradually find a higher
paying job, given the job skills you now have.
We could start by making a hard and fast rule
that we cannot throw away food. We must either freeze leftovers or eat
them by the next day. It’s strange, Christian singles, but when you
freeze meal-sized portions of, for instance, Stir fry, or left over
Spaghetti, it even tastes better the second time around! I don’t
know what happens to it in the freezer, but the taste seems to
improve. Try it and see! And of course, your appreciation for having a
ready-made meal that only needs thawing and reheating probably has a
lot to do with your enjoyment of it. Thaw out some bread or rolls
(that you have frozen in individual portions), and a quick fresh salad
and you have a feast, ready in minutes!
