BARTERING; A GOOD CHOICE FOR
CHRISTIAN SINGLES DATING ONLINE
5. Bartering: There is so much information on
this fast growing method of exchanging an item you no longer want for
one you do want, (without money changing hands) that I will have to
bow to the experts, and direct you to online sites listed under the
word bartering if you want more information than I have gathered for
you. Why reinvent the wheel, right? They have all the information you
will ever need. The basics of bartering is quite straight forward. You
have a camcorder you no longer want, and your friend Joe wants to
trade his skill in designing websites for your camcorder; and thus, he
will create a professional site for you. Whether this is an equitable
trade for both of you is really “in the eyes of the beholder”
because you both determine what Joe’s skill in worth to you and your
camcorder is worth to him. Often, farmers or folks with a small piece
of land will trade produce for something they don’t have, or a skill
they lack.
But I started out bartering casually and now
I find that by trading with neighbors, I have met many new friends.
You automatically have a lot in common to talk about, as you trade
things you no longer need for new stuff. Someone once described
bartering as “trading your old junk for new junk” but for those of
us who just have to have “stuff” to call our own, whether we ever
use it or not, at least by bartering, we have not parted with money to
acquire new things.
Pack Rats, take notice: This has been
a sort of coded message to you; without mentioning your
habit (and mine) of collecting “stuff” that has no apparent
usefulness, (stuff you continue to pack away for a rainy day.) At
least with bartering, it won’t cost you anything. But don’t
breathe a sigh of relief yet, fellow pack rats. Some psychologists
with too much time on their hands have declared our beloved habit a
mental illness called hoarding!! Well, I guess its all a matter of
perspective; you’ve seen photos of rooms and houses that were never
cleaned, and packed to the ceiling with old newspapers, unwashed pots
and pans, etc. These extreme cases usually involved hoarding animals
as well, keeping them in filth and depravation.
