CHRISTIAN SINGLES
GUIDE TO ONLINE DATING ADVICE
The pathological liar is another character disorder
that can sink a romance before it starts. Unfortunately,
the habitual liar is quite accomplished in the art, if you
can call it that. It is an impulse that has served him
well in the past, by covering over his transgressions and
imperfections. A pathological liar can be helped, as long
as you make it understood that you are viewing him as
separate from his sin. (so calling him a liar is not the
way to go. He will only become defensive.) Whether the
person lying is a child or an adult, please don’t label
him or her a liar. Read the chapter on Shame again,
and you will see how to help stop the behavior (lying) by
separating the person from the sin, and helping them
understand they can change because they are separate from
the habit of lying.
Depression is usually in the background of those who
choose to lie. A creative cousin of lying is embellishing.
You may know a person who tells such tales from the past
that you have to doubt if a word of it is true. It is hard
to recognize the embellisher, because he or she will add
so many “facts” to the exaggerated story that it
appears to be true. The same treatment can be tried as in
the case of the habitual liar, or you can just ignore the
fantastic ramblings, or consider them entertainment. But
if the person is someone you are tempted to marry, think
it over. It’s one thing if they conjure up a colorful
tale from the past, but if they embellish events in the
present, Christian singles, that could be a problem.
Please take time, finding the a mate who is free from
serious character disorders.
