Online Dating Experiences Others Have Reported: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

It might be helpful to you if I describe online dating experiences other people have had, some great, and some not as memorable. Katherine was 25, never married, and she was looking for a man who shared her love for cats (since her kitties were “family” to her) and she had a special interest in dance and drama, which she taught to young people in her COGIC church. She also hoped he would be interested in this too, but was prepared to enjoy it on her own, if he and she shared certain core values. A beautiful, talented African- American woman, she was open to meeting Christian men of other ethnicities, but preferred one from her own. Katherine was pleasantly surprised when replies flowed in, and she read each one with interest, hoping to find a kindred spirit. Among the Christian single men were a handsome Polynesian singer, a man who owned a plumbing business, several Bible college students, a dentist, and many others, of sundry professions and ethnicities. As she e-mailed each one that she found something in common with, she still sensed that something was missing. After two months, a new man entered the Christian Dating Service, and quickly responded to her personals ad. It’s hard to believe, but he also attended a COGIC church, and lived only 30 miles from her. He also loved the Lord deeply, and he attended church regularly. He had 2 feline friends he would never have parted with either, and, you guessed it, they made a love connection and were married. Both marveled at their good fortune (actually God’s blessing) to have finally met, though they must have attended various church concerts and functions over the years, never seeing each other. Katherine’s experience wonderfully illustrates the point that your special man or woman may live very close, but may as well live 3000 miles away, because you never would have met them, offline. They now have two children, and are active in the church’s youth program, which draws in many young people, thanks to the devotion and zeal of this couple.
