CHRISTIAN SINGLES DATING
GUIDE: DRESS FOR LESS
Well, it didn’t take long to get over that
foolishness! I saved so much money on good quality clothes
for all of us, that I wondered why I hadn‘t done it
years earlier! False pride will make you do silly things,
Christian singles, like pay way too much for necessities,
just to keep up appearances. At first I avoided eye
contact with other shoppers, and now I chat with anyone I
meet there. If you think only the indigent shop there, you
are mistaken. In fact, the indigent usually get their
clothes free from church thrift stores. No, you
will see an interesting cross section of the community in
thrift stores. And you will see very late model cars
parked in front. Teens seem to like to try on odd clothing
there, and look for hard to find flared leg jeans and
unique tops. Moms, of course, are always on the lookout
for sales to keep their youngsters in styles they like,
and quality that will last through one or two kids wearing
it!
These stores are being upgraded to resemble a
department store, although you will still see some clothes
that are wrinkled or undesirable. But look for the “diamonds
in the rough!” Keep your eyes peeled for clothing that
still carries store tags, and was obviously never worn.
Pay attention to good quality new clothing from the better
stores, and remember their labels, their brand names. I
bought a purse with a famous brand name for only $3.00,
and it was in perfect condition. When I get these items
home, the clothing goes in the laundry and I sanitize
everything else by cleaning with a disinfectant cleaner,
hydrogen peroxide, or a fabric disinfectant. (Hydrogen
peroxide will bleach fabric.)
When you see a book that interests you very much, and
it is still on the NY Times Best Seller List, you will
likely find a copy in nearly perfect condition if you
visit your local thrift store, especially a church owned
thrift store. If you are into crafts, Christian singles,
or you like to collect a particular kind of clothing, for
instance, anything with a Disney character on it, or maybe
the guys like racing logos or other special insignia, you
can find it all at thrift stores.
In fact, if you have inside information about what is
all the rage at eBay, you could search for good used items
in thrift stores and then sell them on eBay, or let
someone else sell it for you on eBay. My sister hired one
of these specialists who will sell your stuff for a small
percentage of the profit made. She was lucky to find an
honest woman who picked up her lamps, dishes, etc. and
sold them, sending the check to my sister. I wouldn’t
know how you could verify how honest or reliable these
sellers are, though. But they would want to protect their
reputation with eBay, you’d think.
Thrift stores are a craft person’s dream. You could
find a good quality comforter for a few dollars, recover
it as a patch work quilt or give it other special
treatment and sell it for much, much more, or keep it in
the family as an heirloom.
